11+ preparation, taught step by step

Kiddo Tutor prepares children for the 11+ grammar school exam: verbal and non-verbal reasoning taught from Year 4, maths and English at their own level, and timed practice papers the length of the real thing.

Reasoning, a step a year

Verbal and non-verbal reasoning are not taught at school, so Kiddo Tutor teaches them. Every question type in a GL-style 11+ is three lessons: a gentle first step in Year 4, the standard in Year 5, and the exam's harder rules in Year 6. A child starts at their own year's step, with a lesson that explains the type before any practice.

Practice papers like the real exam

Four papers, each the length of a real one: maths (50 questions in 50 minutes), English (50 in 50, opening with a reading passage), verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning (80 in 60 minutes each). A child can flag a question to come back to and change any answer until the paper is handed in. Nothing is marked until then. Afterwards the tutor gives the mark and explains the answers that slipped, with the working.

A plan that leads up to it

The AI tutor plans twenty lessons at a time from a short first test, then checks in and plans the next. From Year 4 every plan mixes maths, English and both kinds of reasoning, and in Year 5, the year before the exam, reasoning takes a bigger share. Slips made in a practice paper count as evidence for the next plan. How the AI tutor plans.

Questions parents ask

When should my child start preparing for the 11+?

Most children sit the 11+ in September of Year 6, so families usually start in Year 4 or Year 5. Kiddo Tutor teaches verbal and non-verbal reasoning from Year 4, a step a year, and gives Year 5 the most reasoning in each plan.

Which 11+ question types does Kiddo Tutor cover?

The verbal and non-verbal reasoning question types used in GL-style 11+ exams: codes, letter and number series, analogies, hidden words, word meanings, odd ones out, matrices, rotations, reflections, cube nets and more, alongside maths and English.

Are the practice papers timed like the real exam?

Yes. Maths is 50 questions in 50 minutes, English 50 questions in 50 minutes opening with a reading passage, and verbal and non-verbal reasoning 80 questions in 60 minutes each. Nothing is marked until the paper is handed in; then the tutor gives the mark and explains the answers that slipped.

Is the 11+ preparation free?

Every lesson, reasoning included, is free, and a free account can sit each practice paper once a week, a new one every Sunday. Plus (£9.99 a month or £69.99 a year) has unlimited papers, a new one every sitting. Every new account gets a week of Plus free, with no card.
